Description
Approximately 60,000 years ago, the formation of Capulin Volcano began when molten rock erupted thousands of feet into the air. The rain of cooling cinders and volcanic ash formed Capulin Volcano, a classic cinder cone. Although long extinct, Capulin Volcano is dramatic evidence of the spectacular volcanic events that formed the mesas and mountains of northeastern New Mexico.
